​​Maria Burgués is an independent director,
scriptwriter and producer
based in Barcelona.
Graduated in Communication and Cultural Industries at the University of Barcelona, Maria received a scholarship by ECIB in 2019 to study the Master's Degree in Film Production and Distribution created by Paco Poch. She soon began to collaborate with different companies working in production, distribution and communication, including Screen Projects, Hamill Industries, Nanu Films, and the animation studios Device, Amigo Total and All In Pixel. She was responsible for the opening and creation of the new content department of the animation production company BLISS in 2021.
In parallel, Maria developed her career as an audiovisual creator. She wrote and directed the music videos I Want To Go Outside and Blurry Faces, the fashion film Llagos, and the short films No llores Alma mía (2023), and Aprehendre (2020), selected at several international festivals and produced by Malniu Films, a feminist film collective of which she is co-founder.
In 2023 she established the production company VANOVA with Enric Sant, with which they are currently developing the animated short film IBIS, and the VR cinematic game Lumen. Both projects were selected and awarded in different markets, including the Annecy MIFA Pitches in 2023.
After completing a Postgraduate Degree in Fiction Screenwriting for Film and TV at the ECIB, Maria is currently writing and developing several authorial film projects -all sharing a transgenerational and poetic approach- while taking a four-year Acting Course at Laura Jou Estudi. Maria also works as a scriptwriter and assistant director in both the film and advertising fields, working for several clients such as production companies Corte A Films, Mallerich Films, Rétroviseur Productions, and Martin Salvador Studio.
